Biketoberfest 05
There's lotsa pictures so give it time to load, please. I've tried to optimize the pictures for those that don't have broadband.
fter the great parties we had at Trader Jack's Roadside for Biketoberfest '04 and Bike Week '05, ya know we hadda come back and do it again! We did - on Saturday, October 15 - and once again, we hadda blast with y'all.
The "Official" dates of Biketo-berfest 2005 are October 20 - 23 but things really start hap-pening the weekend before - as long as you're not in the Daytona Beach City Limits. And we like to get out in the country anyhow.
Early arrivals - about noon on October 15. What a beautiful day to ride on country by-ways!
Kick Off Party
Trader Jack's Roadside
That's why we normally chose to do our thing about twenty miles east and north of Daytona on Hwy 17 just north of DeLand. Nice riding, good people and great prices without the rip-offs you find in Daytona "Biker Friendly" places. Ya know, the ones that have the "No Colors" signs posted; the "No Nudity" signs; the "Ride Quiet" signs; the "Soft Music" amps; etc. Out in the country we mind our own business, do our own things and have a great time. No one's bothered, no one's hassled, no one's treated like a friggin' money machine toursit. Just locals takin' care or our readers, and others that happen to find this little hideaway on Hwy 17.
Above - George and Teresa, Ormond Beach, fueling up on good-priced chow and drinks prior to headin' out to ride on this gorgeous autumn day in Florida.
Coming and goin' - that was normal this day. The weather was perfect for ridin' and we had stuff scheduled through-out the day so everyone got to play, too.
Right - And everyone is always so friendly in the country. We got our "Dixie Biker Hello" as soon as we arrived. Thanks! Below left -
Lucinda, Ellen and Cindy.
and they're al-ready wearin' the free beads we give out. We might have a problem after Biketoberfest gettin' the beads since our sup-
plier got wiped out in Hurricane Katrina. Maybe they'll be back up and runnin' by Bike Week order time. Below - Andy and Sandy, owners of Custom Iron just down the road from Trader Jack's.
In the parking lot. Lotsa great scoots. Below - Ralph rode up from Brevard County (Cocoa Beach area) for the party. "Man, what a gorgeous day for a putt!" he told me. "I've already done over a hundred miles and it's still early!"
Below right - Andy's semi-world famous "Die Yuppie Scum" rat bike is always popular.
Oil Wrestlin', sponsored by Savannah's Gentlemen's Club, got underway around 3 pm. The girls were oiled up and turned loose in the "Only in Dixie" swimmin' pool (hay bales and tarps). Yeah - it was sunny and about 85. Autumn in Florida. Oh boy!
Yeah, it ain't politically correct - so what - but it sure is popular with y'all. Lotsa good clean fun plus it's funny as hell, too.
Above - Jessie and Kansas enjoyin' the spectacle. Below left - "Hands-on" owner of Trader Jack's, Becky, rassles Francie. Below - After the girls were finished up, they brought in Bubba. . .
and the girls wore his ass out (left).
Below - In between matches I was introduced to one of our advertisers - Pierre and Michelle, owners of Paradise Harbor Marina and Hotel in Howey-in-the-Hills. They'd ridden over with a group from Lake County - (below left). Nice to finally meet you!
While other things were goin' on, three judges were cruisin' the parking lot checkin' out bikes for a "Bike Show." Three trophies were handed out.
Right - Billy "Ace" Meyers from Cabin John, MD, now livin' in DeLand, and his 100% stock '68 BSA.
Left - Donnie, a retired fire-fighter from DeLand, and his Fire Fighter HD.
After the rasslin', it was time for some of y'all to git it in the wind and enjoy the excellent weather. Thanks for comin'! Others were ridin' in to check out all the happen-
ings - right - Bill and Tammy
rode over from Yankeetown
on the Gulf Coast - and
were enjoyin' the next
spectacle - below - The
semi-world-famous Toss the
Bologna Contest.
He shoots. . .
. . . he scores!
Just doin' what we do. Enjoyin' the weather, the people, the vendors, etc.
Right - PJ, Mary Kay and Boots.
Below left - Ellen heads out as the shadows started to get longer. But. . .
Wait a minute! You're gonna miss the Wet T Contest!! (Below)
We normally do two classes in our Wet T Contests - Stock and Modified - but this time we only had one entrant in the modified class so we hadda cancel that. Stephanie, however, was havin' none of that. She said, "Do me up! I wanna have a good time and I don't care if I win any money or not!" Thanks. We did give her the $25 Vic donated to pour the water (below) and a couple of T-shirts for her efforts.
Left - Donnie doesn't even need to wet down Diana.
Right - Stephanie's "after" shot.
Left - Laurie's turn to get wet. Nah - we don't do the 'ice water' deal.
Below middle - Aretta gets both barrels.
Below right - Sandy, the winner according to crowd applause, gets a bucket from Linda.
After the Wet T Contests Black Mountain (below left) played til the wee hours. Good, kick-ass Rock 'n Roll. And lotsa "buckle-polishin' slow songs (below).
Me 'n Boots, MCing duties and contest duties finished, plus our Orlando area writer, Carolina Dave, just hung out the rest of the night with y'all. That's what we like best: sippin' on a cool one shootin' the shit. Below - Boots and Andy from Deltona. "Monk - here's ten bucks for a couple of drinks on me. I get so much pleasure from Dixie Biker each month, and your events list at DixieBiker.com is how I plan my weekends. Thanks for all y'all do!" You're welcome, Andy. Thanks for the kind words AND the cash!
I like to hug our readers, too. "Yeah, I know. I'm an asshole. Thanks, Stephanie, for makin' my evenin' a little softer."
Below - Charlie and Linda, owners of Wallace Insurance Services, and Russell. Thanks for comin' out to visit. Charlie got a hug from Stephanie, too, but somehow my camera malfunctioned.
I got to hang out and talk with another of our advertisers - Alan, owner of Central Florida Choppers in Orlando. That was cool, especially when he showed me a new product at work: a raked, six inch over Sportster front-end. It looked good and no cuttin' involved. "It's all done in the tree, bro.: Alan told me. Only problem - I forgot to take a picture of the bike. Jeez - I musta had one too many Jose's.
And then it was late, all of a sudden, and it was time for everyone to head home.
What a great day and a great evening. We thoroughly enjoyed ourselves thanks to y'all's prescence, stories, laughs, smiles and good times. And THANKS again to the crew at Trader Jack's Roadside for showin' us a great time and not rippin' off bikers. Y'all're awesome. See you at Bike Week 2006! We'll be there. Join us. This is the invitation - no RSVP required.
